When are credits charged, and when do they come back?
You always see the price before you press Generate, and you are charged that price and no other. This page explains when the charge happens and in which cases your credits or your free attempt come back.
When am I charged?
The price of a generation is shown before you press Generate. When the generation is accepted for processing, exactly that price is taken from your balance. It is never recalculated afterwards.
If you use a free attempt, it is used when the generation is accepted, in place of credits.
When do my credits come back?
A failed generation returns its credits in the same step in which its status changes to failed, so your balance and the card always agree.
Credits also come back when a finished video is held back by our content check, when you cancel a generation while it is still in line, and automatically after 72 hours if we could not confirm the outcome with the model provider.
A card shows "Credits refunded" only after the refund has been recorded.
What if I used a free attempt?
A free attempt is restored instead of credits when the generation fails, is held back by the content check, or is canceled while it is in line. The card then shows "Free attempt restored".
What stays charged?
A generation that finished and was delivered stays charged, even if you do not like the result. Deleting it from History or Assets removes the file, not the charge.
A generation that has already started on the model cannot be stopped or canceled, so its credits are not returned unless it then fails.
Something looks wrong?
Write to support@melter.ai and include the link to the generation. We can see every charge and refund on your account and put it right.
